P R O T E S T // Indigenous Lives Matter
Updated: Jul 7, 2020
We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of the land of the Indigenous people, the traditional custodians of this land, and respect their culture and identity which has been bound up with the land and sea for generations.
On Saturday the 13th of June 2020 the people of Perth rallied together in Langley Park to demand an end to systemic racism and violence endured by Indigenous people in Australia. To date there has been 437 deaths of our First Nations people in police custody since 1991.
It was a meaningful and emotional experience. I find it hard to put into words the overall atmosphere of the protest. There were so many emotions to be felt; anger, hurt, pride, grief, sorrow, frustration unity, love, compassion.
Things cannot continue the way they are. Children are still being taken by the government from their families, our First Nations people are being racially victimised and incarcerated for “being poor”. The system is broken. Whether you are an Indigenous person or not we all deserve basic human rights and to live peacefully, not just Rest In Peace!
I’d like to thank all of the guest speakers and artists, the volunteers and the organisers of this event.
Always has and always will be Aboriginal land.
Love to all my Indigenous friends and family.
I stand with you.
